Due to the generosity of an alumnus of Oxford University, the Charlie Perkins Scholarship Trust is pleased to be able to offer one or two high achieving Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander undergraduates the opportunity to visit Oxford in mid-November 2011.

The Trust is seeking applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university undergraduates (including those in their honours year) who have completed at least two years of their course of study and have the potential to become Charlie Perkins Scholars in the future.

The successful applicant(s) will leave Australia during the second week of November 2011 and spend a week at Oxford visiting colleges and meeting with students and academics in their areas of interest. The successful applicant(s) will also visit Cambridge University. The aim of the visit is to expose them to a number of options for postgraduate study. They will fly back to Australia from London around 18 November 2011. Costs associated with travel, accommodation and meals will be covered.

• a cover letter


• a curriculum vitae


• an official transcript of university results (including mid-year results if available)


• confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent – through a written statement from an elder, or representative on behalf of, the community in which they live or have lived


• details for two academic referees (email and telephone numbers).

The successful applicant(s) will be chosen primarily on the basis of academic achievement (Distinction average or higher), but also on the basis of their potential to become leaders in their field of study and in their communities. Preference will be given to students in the final years of their undergraduate study.
