The calibre of Scholars studying at Oxford University has opened up not only doors, but more importantly, high level discussions and research that go far beyond that which has been possible for me in Australia. I understand the wealth of our own ATSI intelligentsia and community power, but to share this, learn from other perspectives and to challenge the status quo so prevalent in a British and albeit a Western focused institute is rewarding, especially to test ideas and theories. |
Brook, a descendent of the Wiradjuri nation in NSW, is a 2017 Charlie Perkins Scholar and is undertaking a DPhil in Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art and St John's College, Oxford.
Brook graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 1999 and a Master of Fine Arts (Research) in 1999. He is one of Australia's leading artists, and has exhibited extensively both around Australia and overseas and is known for his neon work, public art, printmaking and photography. You can visit his website to see his work. Brook was appointed the Artistic Director of the 22nd Biennale of Sydney and he has been awarded the 2020 Australia Council Award for Visual Arts.
