HOW TO APPLY

eligibility

Applicants must:
  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived;
  • Provide written confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity from an incorporated Indigenous organisation or Land Council;
  • Provide written confirmation of enrolment in a postgraduate course at the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge;
  • Provide a budget (template is provided) outlining how the Scholarship funds will be used and;
  • Be able to demonstrate how your chosen course of study will support you in becoming a leader in your chosen field and within your communities.

how to apply

There are 3 steps to completing the application process. Applicants should:

1.     REGISTER THEIR INTEREST WITH THE TRUST
Contact the Trust on [email protected] to discuss your application and college choice. This is very important as we can provide advice, connect you with current students and support you through your application to Oxford and/or Cambridge.

2. APPLY FOR UNIVERSITY
Before applying you should check your preferred university's website - Oxford and/or Cambridge - to clarify exact entry requirements and application deadlines for your chosen course/s. The Trust encourages candidates to consider applying to both Universities to increase their chances of being accepted into their program of interest.

When you apply to Oxford or Cambridge you will be required to nominate two of the listed participating colleges. There is no limit to the number of application to different courses you can make. However, you will need to provide the full set of necessary supporting materials for each application you submit. The application fee for each program at the University of Oxford is £75, and £65 per application for the University of Cambridge. If you are applying for more than one course you will need to supply separate application forms and payments for each program. When you submit your application, you will be asked to pay the application fee by providing your credit card details to a secure server. The charge is not refundable.


3. APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP
Note: You must be accepted by the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge in order to be eligible to receive a Charlie Perkins Scholarship. You can apply for the Scholarship while your university application is under consideration. 

You will need to submit the following documents:​

​1. 
​ A Personal Statement, of no more than two pages, outlining​​:

  • how you identify with the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community(ies) in which you live or have lived or have ancestral connection to, and past contributions you have made within the community;
  • why you want to study your chosen course and;
  • ways in which understanding and completing your chosen course will allow you to become a leader in your field and your communities.
2.  Written confirmation of full-time enrolment from the relevant university. Alternatively, written confirmation of application submitted to the university;

3. Curriculum Vitae (CV);

4.  An official transcript of university results (including mid-year results if available);

5.  Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through a signed statement from an incorporated Indigenous organisation or Land Council;

6. A completed budget (a template is provided);

7.  A high resolution corporate headshot in jpeg format;

​8. A written reference from an Elder or a senior member of your community to highlight your connection to the community;

9. Two additional references. This may be two academic references highlighting your capabilities and the benefits of completing the study OR one academic and one professional written reference highlighting your capabilities and the benefits of completing the study.

Please note that academic references must be supplied by academic staff such as Lecturers, Tutors and Course Coordinators. Professional staff members such as Student Success Officers will not be accepted.

​Please ensure you submit an application with all the required documents. Your application will not be considered complete or pass the shortlisting process if all required documents are not submitted by the Scholarship closing date.​
