Along with the other Aboriginal students, I have also worked on developing our growing Aboriginal community in Oxford. As a group, we try to meet fortnightly to keep in touch, discuss our work and Aboriginal issues more broadly, and support each other as the new students settle into Oxford life. We are hoping to build on this community and develop a profile within the wider Australian community in Oxford, and the wider Oxford community more generally. |
Paul Gray, a Wiradjuri man from NSW, completed a DPhil in Experimental Psychology at St Catharine's, Oxford as an inaugural Charlie Perkins Scholar. Paul's research investigated the impact of child maltreatment on social and emotional processes in adolescence, seeking to inform policy and practice to improve outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care.
Pauls has recently joined the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research, University of Technology Sydney as a Research Fellow. Prior to this he was the Executive Leader, Strategy, Policy and Engagement for the Aboriginal Child, Family and Community Care State Secretariat (AbSec), the Aboriginal peak body in the child protection sector in NSW, focused on developing community-led and embedded approaches to child and family wellbeing. Paul has worked in the child protection sector for over a decade, with previous roles with the NSW Government in Family and Community Services as a Psychologist and Senior Project Officer focused on the needs of children and young people and children protection practice.
Paul joined the Charlie Perkins Scholarship Trust as a Trustee in 2019.
